Cop dies while running

A police sergeant died after he lost consciousness while performing a road run as part of training at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.

The Southern Police District (SPD) reported Staff Sergeant Victorino Oreiro, 39, an active member of the Philippine National Police, was attending the Police Junior Leadership Course Class 03-2019 at the National Capital Region Training Center.

The victim and his classmates were doing a road run at 5 a.m. on 2 October when he fell down. Apparently, Oreiro lost consciousness while running, thus falling to the ground. However, he was immediately assisted by his classmates.

Lt. Col. Rene Zunega, medical doctor of Regional Health Service, rushed the victim to the Parañaque Doctors Hospital, but he was declared dead-on-arrival at about 6:35 a.m. by attending physician Dr. Sherwin Lacadan.

The cause of death has yet to be announced by SPD authorities.
