San Juan tallies perfect score

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) gave San Juan City a perfect score in its road-clearing operations.

“We are happy to announce that San Juan City received a perfect score in the DILG validation on the implementation of their road clearing directive,” Mayor Francis Zamora posted on Facebook.

“We scored 100 percent because we have successfully complied with all the criteria and standards set by the DILG in the implementation of DILG Memorandum Circular 121 to clear public roads of obstructions.”

Zamora admitted, however, that the challenge to maintain and sustain their feat is bigger.

“Efforts are not just within 60 days, that even beyond people will understand that we are doing this for the betterment of everyone,” Zamora said. “It’s really a big factor that President (Rodrigo) Duterte himself was behind this directive and the DILG is implementing it and we, the local chief executives, are complying.”

The DILG gave local government units 60 days to clear all public areas of illegal occupants like vendors, terminals and vehicles.

One of Zamora’s initiatives was barring private vehicles from parking on public roads near the Greenhills Shopping Center from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Zamora also promised incentives to private land owners who will convert their vacant lots into parking areas.
