No LRT-2 trips today, 4 October

The Light Rail Transit-2 (LRT-2) must conduct further maintenance check-up and repair, thus forcing management to ground the entire line for the second day on Friday.

A fire occurred near the Katipunan station in Quezon City before noon Thursday when a power transformer exploded.

“Based on latest report from LRT Authority engineering and safety units, LRT2 will no longer be able to resume full or partial line operations 04 October 2019. Several technical & safety concerns prevent resumption of any passenger operations,” a statement read.

“Our primary concern now is to determine the extent of the damage so as to ascertain the integrity, stability, and safety of LRTA structures and facilities,” LRTA Administrator Gen. Reynaldo Berroya said.

The LRTA also apologized to the affected passengers for the inconvenience. LRT-2 runs from Recto Avenue in Manila to Santolan, Pasig.

Meanwhile, LRT-1 and the Metro Rail Transit are fully operational as of posting time.
