LRT-2 operations suspended indefinitely

Operations of the Light Rail Transit-2 (LRT-2) will remain suspended for the time being as officials are still unsure when it will be safe again for the riding public.

Management said they have started the repairs but most of the materials must be imported.

“Hindi natin mare-repair ngayon ‘yan hanggang bukas o sa susunod na araw pa. It will take some time,” Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) spokesperson Hernando Cabrera said in a TV interview.

Cabrera said they are planning partial operations but it will depend on the integrity of the system, power supply and the signalling system—all affected by the fire.

LRT-2 operations were halted before noon Thursday after two rectifiers caught fire near the Katipunan station and the power supply of the entire line affected.

Management is working with bus companies and government agencies to provide alternative transportation for over 200,000 LRT-2 daily passengers.
