DoH-3: Outbreaks under control

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – Amid the viral outbreaks in some parts of the country, the Department of Health’s Region 3 office (DoH-3) assured that dengue, diphtheria and measles cases in Central Luzon are under control.

DoH-3 Regional Director Cesar Cassion made the statement during a press conference here on Thursday.

Cases of infection from the three diseases recorded in seven provinces of the region are deemed “controllable,” said Cassion.

The number of cases for each disease, however, is a little bit higher compared to the previous year while the region remains polio-free.

Around 25,486 dengue cases were reported in Central Luzon, with 74 of those cases resulting in death.

The DoH-3 also recorded 6,793 cases of measles with 131 deaths since mid-September and 13 cases of diphtheria with no fatality in the same period.

Meanwhile, the agency reported four cases of malaria, and 193 cases of leptospirosis with 21 deaths.

Cassion urged people to maintain a clean environment, practice good hygiene, and vaccination of children.

“Our main weapon against all these diseases are still clean environment, proper hygiene and of course, vaccine,” he said.
