Cusi takes over PMA

This was the instructions sent out by Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Noel Clement to incoming acting Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Superintendent Rear Admiral Allan Cusi who formally assumes command of the academy on Tuesday, 1 October.

Cusi will replace Lt. Gen. Ronnie Evangelista as head of the country’s premier military school during the change of command ceremony to be held at the PMA in Fort del Pilar, Baguio City.

In a statement, AFP Spokesman Marine Brigadier General Edgard Arevalo, said Lt. Gen. Clement expects the incoming acting PMA superintendent to make a positive difference in winning the quest to rid PMA of maltreatment and in leading the reorientation of the cadets on their views of authority and responsibility in the incipient stage of their training as future officers of the AFP.

“The AFP Chief is confident that RAdm Cusi will succeed given his known competence as a trainer, mentor, leader, and commander in various levels of command and staff positions,” Arevalo said.

“Lt. Gen. Clement is aware that RAdm Cusi faces a complex and daunting task of curbing, and ultimately, eliminating the malady brought by maltreatment in the soonest possible time,” he added.

Arevalo, at the same time, said Cusi’s assignment in PMA’s Tactics Group that directly deals with cadet leadership development and training and his recent stint as Commander of Naval Education, Training, and Doctrines Command of the Philippine Navy, will be valuable in his new post.

Clement on Thursday announced the new appointees following the resignation of Evangelista last week due to the latest hazing controversy at the school.

In a press briefing at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City, Clement named Cusi, the former Vice Commander of the Philippine Navy and Commander of the Naval Education Training and Doctrines Command, as the incoming PMA superintendent.

Cusi is a graduate of PMA Class of 1986.
