Star City may partially open December

An inspection of the Star City grounds Wednesday indicated portions of the 28-year-old amusement park may open before Christmas.

Lawyer Rudolph Jularbal, spokesperson for Manila Broadcasting Company and Star City, said they will secure the approval of the Bureau of Fire Protection, Pasay City Engineering Office and other agencies before re-opening.

A fire gutted the twin establishments about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday. Aliw Theater inside the MBC complex also sustained major damage. Arson is one of the causes being looked into by fire officials.

MBC FM stations Love Radio, Yes the Best, Easy Rock and Radyo Natin and DZRH, the flagship AM station of MBC, continued regular programming.

Malacañang expressed concern and called on “government instrumentalities” to extend assistance to employees affected.

Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo, part of President Rodrigo Duterte’s delegation in Russia, said in a statement that it’s “truly sad news knowing that Star City is a place where Filipino families visit to celebrate the Yuletide season.”

“To our friends in the media who are affected, we wish to let them know that we are one with them in this tragic incident,” Panelo stated. (DZRH reports)
