Riot with the Hurados

For those who have long been curious of that prospect, these names have finally pooled their resources, time and talent together in the upcoming “Ogie and the Hurados” concert on 10 October at the Newport Performing Arts Theater.

People have always probably wondered how Showtime’s “Tawag ng Tanghalan” judges or Hurados would sound like on one stage.

After all, the esteemed judges, who have been selecting the finest voices to grace a noontime show, are some of the marquee names in the Philippine concert scene.

There’s Zsa Zsa Padilla, Jed Madela and master composer Rey Valera. There are also performers like K Brosas, Randy Santiago and Karylle. And, of course, singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid. Individually, most of them can carry a show or concert. Thus, the thought of seeing them all on one stage, not just bantering on their panel and singing a tune or two to coach or lecturing a singing aspirant, would be one hell of a treat.

For those who have long been curious of that prospect, these names have finally pooled their resources, time and talent together in the upcoming “Ogie and the Hurados” concert on 10 October at the Newport Performing Arts Theater.

“It’s going to be a night where we’re going to let our hair down. It’s going to be one big jam session of the songs we’ve always wanted to sing and at the same time sing to our audience. I’m sure this is going to be riot,” Ogie enthused during the concert’s press conference held at the El Calle Food and Music Hall at the Resorts World Manila.

Ogie is no stranger to shows. He has been to countless ones, either as a headliner or one of the featured guests. So, how does this upcoming show differ from his previous ones?

“Think of me as the main host. Hahaha. The party host and all the Hurados will have their own spot and at the same time will be having production numbers. We will be performing songs that you’ve never heard us perform before for our fans and for to those who watch Tawag,” he shared.

While he’s busy with the show, which is going to have Nikko Rivera and Paolo Bustamante as musical and concert directors, respectively, Ogie also took time to address some concerns the show recently had to address.

Their popular singing contest was recently put on the spotlight after some contestants aired their sentiments over “unfair” voting by some of the judges. Dulce, one of the members of the panel, even had to apologize on air.

Ogie, being a seasoned singer, also appealed to their viewers.

“It’s like other contests; it’s the same in the sense that not all will be pleased with the results. That is a truth that I think we have to accept even if it’s Miss Universe. In any contest, there will always be disappointments, this is most especially true with Tawag because our madlang pipol (the show’s viewers) are already attached to their bets. In their minds, if they see that their bets were treated unfairly, they will be understandably hurt.

“But in defense of the Hurados, first of all, it’s difficult to be one to balance all that. We ourselves have our bets but it’s a daily performance-based judging show. On a daily basis, we have to see who performed better or best, and that’s what counts. It is not a matter of us favoring someone else, or clinging to what the masa wants. But it’s about when the finals come, we have to choose someone who has shown astounding skills in all of the performances,” he explained.

All’s well now for the segment as it recently wrapped up. After all the brouhaha, he and his fellow Hurados are excited to perform with each other and hopefully make their fans join in on the fun with them.
