Cebu welcomes more WTE proposals

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia has encouraged multinational companies to put up .

Waste-To-Energy (WTE) projects for the province in an attempt to solve the garbage problem that has been hounding cities and municipalities under Cebu’s provincial jurisdiction.

Garcia met with the officials of Integrated Green Technology (IGT) facilitated by former Fourth District Representative Benhur Salimbangon, who proposed the establishment of flue gas treatment and combustion treatment plants in areas around the province which are consistent to their respective land use category.

Garcia said the IGT expressed its interest to bid out on WTE projects in the province, while Salimbangon said that the company’s track record on such projects would show their legitimacy and credibility in embarking on the endeavor.

Meanwhile, Provincial General Services Officer Bernard Calderon said that his office is still finalizing the terms of reference for the WTE projects.

He added that it will depend on the provincial board on whether it will be considered a joint venture agreement or a public-private-partnership.
