Hazing suspect found dead

A University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication student, earlier implicated in a hazing incident, was found dead on Saturday afternoon.

The body was discovered inside their house at about 2 p.m. on 28 September.

Two days before his death, the casualty was implicated by UP CMC in a hazing incident.

He was allegedly a Sigma Rho Fraternity member and as shown in the screenshots of online conversations that circulated in social media, participated in a hazing activity.

A statement by UP Diliman Chancellor Michael Tan on Sunday confirmed that a “member of the UP Sigma Rho Fraternity” died but did not name the victim and cause of death.

“I appeal to all students, faculty and staff, as well as other concerned parties in and out of UP Diliman, to stop posting and forwarding social media messages related to the death of one of the Sigma Rho Fraternity members implicated in last week’s online exposé of the fraternity’s hazing,” said Tan. “Let us do this out of sense of decency and respect for the privacy of the family.”
