City mayors beat clearing deadline

Metro Manila mayors are doing last-minute operations to meet the 60-day ultimatum of President Rodrigo Duterte to clear and reclaim public roads by Sunday, 29 September.

Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Martin Diño said the agency will conduct inspection of 17 cities on Monday to ensure that the city leaders complied with the directive.

In the event of the return of sidewalk vendors, Diño said the city leader will be ordered to explain.

Erring officials, including barangay chiefs, can be slapped with suspension for negligence.
