Clement: Territorial issues to be dealt with peacefully

On issues concerning disputed territories in the West Philippine Sea, newly-minted Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Noel Clement on Tuesday said that it will be addressed through peaceful resolutions.

In his speech, the new AFP chief said that the Philippine military continues to develop its capability in territorial defense that aims to secure the region and stressed that the military will abide by the peaceful resolutions on matters concerning disputed territories.

He added that the AFP would work through its best assets, promising also that he would remain committed to ending armed insurgencies

Clement, who belongs to the Philippine Military Academy’s Sandiwa Class of 1985, also promised that he would remain committed to ending armed insurgencies.

“Similarly, our focused operations will be sustained and surgically conducted on those who threaten the peace in our communities,” said Clement, who belongs to the Philippine Military Academy’s Sandiwa Class of 1985.

Clement had said that insurgency would be his priority during his term as AFP chief, which will end on January 2020.
