A student Leyte National High School gets his shot.

TACLOBAN CITY—Over a thousand Grade 7 students in the biggest high school in Eastern Visayas lined up on the first day of the first school-based immunization program this school year conducted by the Department of Health and the City Health Office.

Students of Leyte National High School (LNHS), the biggest public school in the region with almost 8,000 enrollees, were administered with vaccines for measles and rubella (German measles) and booster shots against tetanus and diphtheria (MR-TD).

City Health officer Dr. Gloria Fabrigas said starting next week, immunization activities will simultaneously be done in three schools daily to cover all the public schools in Tacloban. Composed of seven teams, the CHO hopes to meet its 95% target for the immunization drive.

Fabrigas said they chose LNHS for the first round of their immunization campaign because it is the biggest school.

Dr. Fabrigas appealed to parents to give their consent for the immunization because this will protect their children.

“We know that measles is very highly infectious disease that can infect in just one exposure,” she said.
