Asean Volleyball: Thais cream Filipinas

NAKHON RATCHASIMA, Thailand — Thailand defeated the Philippines in three sets, 25-13, 25-21, 23-25, 25-20, in the Asean Volleyball Grand Prix at Terminal 21 Mall here on Saturday.

The Thais, who have been dominating the region since 1995, were on their way to an easy win, with the Philippines stealing the third set.

The Philippines was still in the thick of the fight in the fourth, keeping the tie close until the hosts broke a 13-all deadlock with a 6-0 run that tilted the balance to the Thais’ favor.

Kalei Mau topscored with 12 points while Ces Molina added 11 markers for the Filipinos, who also got eight points from Eya Laure mostly in the thrilling third set.

Aby Marano drilled nine markers while Majoy Baron and Jovelyn Gonzaga had seven each.

The Philippines will take on Vietnam in a bid to come up with a strong finish before the tourney shifts to Sta. Rosa City next month.
