NEWS BRIEFS: Snake intrusion causes power outage

TACLOBAN CITY — A snake that went up the transmission line and crossed parallel transmission cables of National Grid Corporation in the Philippines (NGCP) in Borongan City caused an eight-hour power outage in Eastern Samar on Friday.

NGCP Regional Corporate Communications Officer Milfrance Capulong said that power tripped at 1:11 a.m. and was restored at 8:56 a.m. the same day.

An advisory of NGCP sent to media said the snake intrusion happened at structure 831 along Paranas-Taft-Borongan-Quinapondan 69kV main line, thereby affecting the whole service area of Eastern Samar Electric Cooperative.

Foot patrol personnel sent to trace the cause of the power outage had to cross a river that had high water level due to river swelling from heavy rains experience in recent days.

BAGUIO CITY — Residents of Sablan municipality in Benguet as well as visitors will be treated with a fresh medley of fruit during the town’s 5th Fruit Festival on 2 to 3 September 2019.

According to Sablan Mayor Manuel Munar, they will be featuring pomelo, papaya, pineapple, guava, coconut and rambutan during the three-day festivities, as well as giving a serving of durian, mabolo, mangosteen and lanzones that are also grown in Sablan.

Sablan is the fruit basket of Benguet, which is also famous for its sweet pineapples.

An agro-industrial trade fair that will showcase Sablan’s products will be a highlight of the event, as well as a farmer’s congress with lectures on citrus propagation and root crops cultivation by Benguet State University and a presentation of the Provincial Veterinary Livelihood Program by the Benguet Provincial Veterinary Office.
