WNCAA gets under way

An explosive basketball double-header ushers the opening of Season 50 Women’s National Collegiate Athletic Association (WNCAA) this Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Eight-time champion Centro Escolar University tips things off when it battles University of Makati at 2 p.m. while San Beda Alabang clashes with University of Asia and the Pacific in the 3 p.m. battle of the opening salvo of this women’s grassroots competition.

WNCAA executive director Vivian Manila said they anticipate another banner year now that they are entering their golden anniversary.

“The WNCAA laid out the path for women players to succeed in different fields, not just in sports,” said Manila during the press launch of the new season branded as “Destined for Greatness.”

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno and former St. Scholastica’s College cager Justine Ferrer will grace the opening ceremonies.
