TD ‘Nimfa’ triggers rains over Central Luzon

The extension of tropical depression “Nimfa” is triggering rains over Central Luzon as it slowly moves towards northeast outside of Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

The weather state bureau last spotted Nimfa at 758 kilometers east northeast of Basco, Batanes, and is packing maximum winds of 55 kilometers per hour and gustiness of 70 kph. It is expected to intensify into a tropical storm before exiting PAR on Saturday.

The weather disturbance is also enhancing the southwest monsoon (habagat), bringing cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rainshowers and thunderstorms over Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region.

Occasional rains brought by habagat will prevail in Metro Manila, rest of Luzon and Western Visayas while Mindanao and the rest of Visayas will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA warns the public against the hazards associated with the downpour including flash floods and landslides.
