Cordillera holds disaster readiness summit

The Cordillera Regional Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) will host emergency responders from national and Government agencies, the science community, academe and the private sector for a two-day summit from 17 to 18 September at the Venus Park View Hotel in Baguio City.

The CDRRMC is expected to discuss the four Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR) priorities for Action and strengthen DRRM capabilities through sharing of best practices and innovations and mapping out next steps in the promotion of safer, adaptive and resilient communities.

The Sendai Framework was adapted at the third United Nations World Conference on DRR in Sendai, Japan on 18 March 2015 and it is the first agreement of the post-2015 development agenda, with seven targets and four priorities for Action to prevent new and reduce existing risks.

The four priorities for actions are the understanding disaster risk, strengthening disaster risk governance to manage disaster risk, investing in disaster risk reduction for resilience and enhancing disaster preparedness for effective for effective response and to “Build Back Better” in recovery, rehabilitation and reconstruction.
