AWOL cop, 2 others charged for carnapping

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) on Monday announced the arrest of a policeman who is absent without official leave (AWOL) and three other suspects involved in carnapping activities during an operation in Quezon City last Sunday.

Police Colonel Ronnie S. Montejo, the newly-installed QCPD director, identified the policeman as Patrolman John Rey Bautista, 37, a resident of Malabon City.

Montejo said Bautista was formerly assigned with the Southern Police District (SPD) before his transfer to the Regional Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit (RPHAU) of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) headquarters at Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City, last 18 June 2015.

The three other suspects were identified as Albert Hipolito, 46, of Barangay Tandang Sora, Quezon City; Roderick Sarang, 43, of Barangay Santol, Quezon City; and Christopher Orosco, 39, of Caloocan City.

Aside from the recovered vehicles, police also seized from Bautista a Glock 17 caliber 9MM with seven ammunition and a spare magazine with 18 ammunition.
