Drowning granny saved by traffic cop

Manila Police District director P/Gen. Vicente Danao commended the bravery demonstrated by a member of the MPD traffic unit by responding to a call of a drowning woman and saving her as he was manning morning traffic near McArthur Bridge.

P/Cpl. Romeo M. Balagtas left his post, removed his shirt and passed on his handgun to a buddy before jumping off the bridge to save the woman.

Balagtas immediately got hold of the victim and kept her afloat until a ladder was given by rescuers on the bridge for the woman to climb up to safety.

The incident took place on 6 September at 4 p.m.

Danao said, “This heroic act by our police is very rare, and we give recognition to the act of saving a life.”
