Rody set to fire another official

Following the string of terminations by government officials from their respective posts, President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday announced that he is set to fire another official – but not for corruption allegations.

In his speech, the President said that he is set to terminate another official because of poor performance.

“I will fire another official. Though she is not corrupt, she is not in parity with others in terms of performance,” said Duterte. “She is handling an economic office…I have to make the change.”

Earlier on Tuesday, Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo announced the sacking of Jose Antonio Goitia, executive director of the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission due to corruption.

Duterte called on government officials to stay away from corruption.

“I would like to take this opportunity to never engage in corruption or any unlawful activity that will smear your dignity and taint your integrity,” Duterte said. “Public office is a public trust. We must always be accountable to the people. This is not a challenge. This is a mandate.”
