Gov’t sends 4,498 workers overseas

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), through its Government Placement Branch, has deployed 4,498 Filipino workers abroad in the first seven months of the year.

Of the total number, 2,728 applicants were accepted and deployed to Korea as factory workers under the Employment Permit System, the POEA said.

A factory worker in South Korea can earn as much $1,200 or P60,000 every month.

A total 330 nurses and caregivers were sent to their assigned hospitals and nursing homes in Japan under the Japan-Philippine Economic Partnership Agreement.

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Health has also hired 1,188 Filipino workers of various skills through the Saudi Recruitment Office. The OFW include doctors, dentists, pharmacists, midwives, medical technicians, nurses and administrative staff.

Meanwhile, the Federal Employment Agency and the International Placement Agency selected 150 nurses to work in hospitals and nursing homes in Germany under the Triple Win Program.

The POEA is allowed to recruit and place overseas Filipino workers through government-to-government arrangements with countries where the Philippines has bilateral labor agreements or arrangements.
