100% voter turnout seen in plebiscite

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) expects voter turnout for the plebiscite to ratify the cityhood of Sto. Tomas, Batangas Saturday, 7 September 2019, would be higher than the regular elections with the massive information drive in the town over the past week.

“Certainly, the turnout will be high. It may not reach 100 percent, it will definitely be higher than average,” said Comelec Spokesman James Jimenez.

The Comelec is all set and expects the plebiscite to go without any setbacks.

“All the required documents are in place. The supplies are in place. The teachers have been trained,” Jimenez added.

Jimenez said they expect to know the results of the plebiscite within 24 hours.

“It is just one town so we don’t expect that we will be have to wait that long,” said Jimenez.

To vote, residents should write the word “Yes” or “Oo” on the official ballot if they vote for the approval of the ratification of R.A. No. 11086. If not, they should write “No�? or “Hindi�?.

An express lane will be provided for pregnant voters, Persons with Disabilities and Senior Citizens while illiterates, Persons with Disabilities and Senior Citizens may be assisted by qualified persons.

All qualified and duly registered voters of Sto. Tomas, Batangas may cast their votes from 7:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M

As of the May 2019 elections, there were 98,583 registered voters in Sto Tomas, Batangas.
