Red Tankers sizzle

Chloe Medina anchored San Beda University’s (SBU) golden splash in the first day of Season 95 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) swimming competition on Wednesday at the Sta. Rosa Multipurpose Complex pool in Sta. Rosa City, Laguna.

The 20-year Medina cornered three of the Red Tankers’ eight-gold medal haul after ruling the 200-meter individual medley (IM), 50-m backstroke and powered SBU’s 200-m medley relay squad.

“I did not expect to win (three). But since I won three, I’ll target to win all my events,” said Medina, who is entered in three more events.

Aside from Medina, Robi Mangilinan and Gwynette Amber Cawaling delivered for SBU tankers with two golds apiece.

Cawaling ruled the 800-m freestyle and was part of the 200-m women’s medley relay team. Mangilinan took the golds in the 50-m backstroke and was a member of the 200-m men’s medley relay squad.

After the first day of swimming event, hosted by University of Perpetual Help, the Red Tankers tallied 297.5 and 373 points in the men’s and women’s divisions respectively.
