Axed Faeldon a no-show at Senate hearing

A day after President Rodrigo Duterte fired him as Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) director-general, Nicanor Faeldon did not show up on Thursday for the third installment of the Senate investigation on the implementation of the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) law and the aborted release of rape-slay convict Antonio Sanchez.

Senate Justice and Blue Ribbon Committees chair Senator Richard Gordon informed the panel that Faeldon’s lawyer texted him and asked the panel if the axed BuCor chief can skip the probe.

“ I got a text this morning while I’m on my way here. Nakikiusap ‘yung abogado ni Mr. Faeldon kung maari ‘di na siya dadalo. Bagamat he is under subpoena at walang sulat at text lang ng third party na di naman registered ang abogado niya dito, ay nakikiusap na maaring huwag na siyang humarap dito,” Gordon informed the panel.

He, along with Senate President Vicente Sotto III and Senator Panfilo Lacson, decided to consider Faeldon’s case and told the panel that they will not impose sanctions.

“Tinanong ko ‘yung mga kapwa ko senador kung maaring ‘di na siya darating. Importante na makarating siya, pero ang present attitude namin is to be magnanimous. At the meantime, unless there are other information that may come out, we will require his presence once again. So we will be reserving that right now. Although he has a subpoena, we will not put him under any sanctions,” Gordon added.
