NEDA awaiting Sangley Airport dev’t proposals

Sangley Airport was proposed for rehabilitation to serve as an alternative option of the congested Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) is still waiting for the revised proposal of the local government of Cavite to submit its revised proposal to develop the Sangley Airport, Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ernesto Pernia said.

To recall, NEDA returned Cavite LGU’s proposal to develop the airport for $10 billion in partnership with a Chinese firm for lacking a legal framework.

Asked if there was a deadline for the submission, Pernia told reporters: “It’s up to them.”

Sangley airport was proposed for rehabilitation to serve as an alternative option of the congested Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

In July this year, NEDA also returned the proposal of the seven conglomerates to rehabilitate the NAIA for a total of P102 billion.

NEDA required another round of revision for the project, particularly for the consortium to follow the operations and maintenance template of the Clark International Airport.

Prior to NEDA, the Department of Transportation already gave its go-signal saying the offer “was acceptable.”

The rehabilitation of NAIA was one of the Duterte administration’s priorities which now operates at more than 40 percent more than its capacity.

Meanwhile, the Sangley airport was also proposed to be developed by the Sy Group for a total of $12 billion but NEDA said it preferred to have the Cavite government to undertake the project.
