NCC to be privatized

NEW CLARK CITY — The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) said that all the sports facilities inside New Clark City (NCC) will be privatized after the 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games this year.

“The plan is to privatize the operation and maintenance of these facilities,” BCDA president and chief executive officer Vivencio Dizon said.

“We believe that in order to preserve and run these facilities well, we need to involve the private sector. The private sector will not only operate and maintain the facilities well, but they will also be the ones to find the best uses for them,” he added.

Dizon said that the privatization will include the 2,000-capacity Aquatics Center, the 20,000-capacity Athletics Stadium and the Athlete’s Village.

The Athlete’s Village is one of the facilities of the NCC that will serve as quarters for the athletes, coaches and officials of the SEA Games.

The Aquatics Center was recently used during the 1st National Open Swimming Championships while the stadium was used for the final leg of the 2019 Philippines Athletics Track and Field Association Weekly Relay Series last Sunday.

Dizon said the International Association of Athletics Federations and the International Swimming Federation lauded the sports facilities and both met the international standards.

The BCDA chief added that these sports facilities will be open to the public and can be used for sport events, sports club meets, corporate events, team buildings and other entertainment events.
