Ill-fated medevac plane owner assumes responsibility

The owner of the medevac (medical evacuation) plane that crashed in a resort in Calamba, Laguna, on Sunday, killing all nine passengers and crew, assured it will spend for the funeral expenses of the victims.

Lion Air lawyer Lester Ople said the company is getting in touch with the families of the fatalities and the injured in Sunday’s incident that happened in Brgy. Pansol about 3:34 p.m.

“We are ready to work with authorities to have this investigated,” Ople said in a radio interview on Monday morning. “Right now, we’re managing all of the funeral expenses.”

The caretakers of the resort―John Ray Roca, 19, and his mother Malou Roca, 49―sustained burns but are already out of danger.

The nine killed included two pilots, two nurses, a doctor, a patient, the patient’s wife and two other people. The plane came from Dipolog in Zamboanga del Norte and was transporting the patient to Manila.
