PUERTO PRINCESA CITY — Baguio City started to pull away for the overall crown as archer Aldrener Igot Jr. of Cebu City made it 8-for-8 to emerge as the most bemedalled athlete here in the Philippine Sports Commission-Batang Pinoy national finals yesterday.

The young athletes from the Summer Capital has amassed 40 golds, 31 silvers and 42 bronze medals as of of press time, putting them in a good position to annex the overall crown in the weeklong event for children aged 15 and below.

The last year’s national finals hosts banked on their performance in wushu with 12 golds and Muay Thai events with 10 mints.

Running second was Davao City with 27-22-29 followed by Quezon City (22-22-21), Cebu City (21-23-22) and Laguna Province (18-19-16) with one day left of competition

Igot once again grabbed the limelight of the annual competition after spearheading the mixed and boys’ teams to gold-medal finishes to hike his golden haul to eight at the Ramon V. Mitra Sports Complete here.

Igot, who swept the 20m, 30m, 40m, 50m, FITA and Olympic round the previous days, teamed up with Khalil Jasper Abella and Kien Zhyron Torreon in edging General Santos’ Renato Joaquin, Nino Gleam Sabile and Allyson Quiepo via shootout in pocketing his seventh gold.
