A first? QC mall parking area free for PUVs

A Quezon City mall has offered its parking area for the use of public utility vehicles—free of charge.

Jeepneys, UV Express vans and tricycles can use the Crossroad Tandang Sora parking space without paying any fees as the mall operator wants to help ease road congestion in the Novaliches district.

The mall is located near the corner of Quirino Highway and Tandang Sora Avenue where heavy foot and road traffic are experienced every day. Jeepney and tricycle drivers load and unload passengers at the busy intersection.

QC Mayor Joy Belmonte is hoping other private properties, particularly shopping malls, will follow suit.

“The generous gesture is very much welcome given the heavy traffic in the area [and] due to the presence of three terminals right on the road,” Belmonte said. “We are praying that other malls like SM, Robinsons, Ayala and others will follow and become partners in the Bayanihan sa Lansangan program.”

Bayanihan sa Lansangan encourages support from barangays and the private sector in clearing roads and sidewalks of obstructions.
