State of calamity declared over dengue in Mt. Province

BAGUIO CITY — The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Mountain Province has approved a resolution declaring a state of calamity as dengue cases continued to rise.

The resolution was passed after Gov. Bonifacio Lacwasan informed the board about the status of dengue cases in the province.

In a letter, Lacwasan cited official data from the Provincial Health Office showing there are already 500 confirmed cases of dengue in Mountain Province this year.

The governor said that there are two confirmed deaths.

To address a possible worse case scenario, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan approved the resolution putting the entire province under the state of calamity.

With the declaration, the local government can avail of emergency funds to carry out appropriate and emergency measures.

According to the Department of Health (DoH) Cordillera, there is no need yet for a declaration of epidemic in the region.

The DoH-Cordillera said that although there are rising cases in the region, the situation is still manageable but stressed the need to remain on-guard to thwart to increase in dengue cases.
