Sotto’s hands tied to ban pay parking

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto claimed on Tuesday that his hands are tied with regards the banning of private vehicles from parking on public roads.

Sotto said he cannot stop pay parking on all the city’s streets because the Pasig City Council has an existing ordinance allowing motorists to park their vehicles on public roads.

“We’re just waiting for an ordinance from our city council to prohibit street parking. There is an ordinance on that, so we need also an ordinance to repeal it. It’s (ordinance) now pending at the city council,” the local chief executive explained.

“But our priority for now is to clear primary and secondary roads, which are readily available for clearing,” he added.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government has given Metro Manila mayors 60 days to clear public roads in their respective areas of any obstruction.
