San Beda’s roaring start

San Beda University kicked off its title-retention bid on a sizzling note as it posted a 3-0 romp of Jose Rizal University (JRU) in the women’s division of Season 95 National Collegiate Athletic Association table tennis tournament at the JRU gymnasium over the weekend.

On the same note, College of Saint Benilde also had a winning start as it dominated JRU, 3-0, in the men’s division.

The Lady Red Paddlers are gunning to extend their reign for the seventh straight season while the Blazers are seeking their sixth consecutive men’s crown.

Last year’s runner-up Letran College split its first two women’s ties, beating JRU, 3-0, before dropping a 1-3 decision to University of Perpetual Help System Dalta.

The Knights, who also placed second in men’s play last season, went 1-1 in the opener as they prevail over the Bombers, 3-0, before narrowly losing to Mapua Univeristy, 2-3.
