Phl cops to study Mandarin

The rising numbers of kidnapping cases involving Chinese nationals has prompted the Philippine National Police (PNP) to send members of its Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) to China to study the Mandarin language.

PNP-AKG Police Lt. Col. Elmer Cereno said it’s important for the police to be able to speak and understand Mandarin for easier processing of charges against the erring foreigners.

The Chinese government will shoulder all expenses, Cereno said.

An initial batch of three policemen will travel to China in September and will stay there for a month.

A total of 20 police officers may be sent to China.
