DA: Pork price, supply stable

Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary William Dar on Monday assured consumers that the supply and price of pork remain stable despite reports of suspected African swine fever in some areas in the country.

Dar said that commercial hog raisers have given their commitment to ensure that there will be no shortage of supply especially in the coming “ber” months.

He also stressed that the price of pork remains stable.

“It’s not moving that much, so that’s good. That’s an indication we have enough pork supply,” Dar said.

The DA is still awaiting results of the confirmatory laboratory test being conducted in Europe on samples taken from affected swine.

Once the disease is controlled, Dar said affected hog raisers will receive assistance from the government in the form of piglets.

In another development, Dar said that the government will extend P25,000 in financial aid to farmers in Ilocos Norte affected by tropical storm “Ineng” which left millions worth of damages to agriculture in the province.
