Delinquent employer penalty condonation program ends soon

State-run Social Security System (SSS) called on the various employers to avail of the contribution penalty condonation program (CPCP) before it lapses on 6 September this year.

This was learned from SSS President and CEO Aurora Ignacio who said employers could still retain their good record standing by paying up their arrears.

“Instead of waiting for the last day, we strongly urge all delinquent employers to immediately apply for the condonation program to settle the unpaid premium of their employees and have the incurred penalties waived,” Ignacio said.

“You have until 6 September to avail of the program and bring back your records to good standing,” she added.

According to the SSS, some P795.97 million worth of premium have been collected from 31,774 employers that benefitted 307,578 employees as of July this year. This brings condoned penalties to a total of P1.67 billion.

Ignacio acknowledged that while the program has redeemed some of the errant employers, quite a number have yet to avail of the program.

“Only a few weeks left before the deadline, yet there are still more than 70 percent of delinquent employers who have not yet availed of the CPCP. They should take advantage of this big opportunity to avoid incurring criminal liability and help their employees claim the benefits due them without delay,” Ignacio said.

“Employers have the option to pay in full the amount of unpaid contributions or through an installment payment scheme with only six percent interest per year,” she added.

The SSS warned non-compliant employers who continue to violate and fail to settle their delinquencies before the deadline lapses face imprisonment ranging from six to 12 years and a fine of P5,000 up to P20,000.

“We always stress the importance of availing of the CPCP to avoid paying for penalties that are sometimes higher than the actual premium that they have to pay. When you settle your financial obligations with SSS, your employees will be able to maximize their benefits and privilege as SSS members,” the pension fund chief said.
