Taguig school head accused of graft

Three separate complaints of graft, serious misconduct, dishonesty and conduct unbecoming of a public official and employee were filed by officials and employees of the Department of Education (DepEd) in Taguig City before the Office of the Ombudsman against their superiors.

Noharddin Haron, the lawyer representing the complainants Nestor Ramos, Bernadeth Bautista, Ma. Leny Manaoat, Salome Castro, librarian Joseph Son and Irma San Pedro, accused Dr. George Tizon of DepEd’s chief school governance operations in Taguig City-Pateros of failure to declare some properties in his statements of assets, liabilities and net worth “using various dummies.”

“With the wealth that he has amassed thus far, respondent Tizon has no qualms displaying his lavish lifestyle by sporting high-end cars and owning large villas and several commercial buildings,” the first complaint read.

It was averred that Tizon supposedly used “his shareholdings in Joy-Leigh Realty Holding Inc. as convenient dummy to hide his unexplained wealth.”

In the second complaint, Noharddin said the DepEd official would recommend his family-owned G3 Natural Hot Springs Resort located in Calamba, Laguna as a venue for field trips, and that he would instruct the school’s transport provider to overcharge the student participants.

A lifestyle check is also being asked by the complainants from Ombudsman Samuel Martires on Tizon.

Tizon, a concurrent officer-in-charge-principal of Senator Renato “Compañero” Cayetano High School, “demanded P40 per student as his share or percentage in the school field trip fees in public high schools in Taguig and Pateros division,” Haron alleged.

The complainants claimed the accused would “boast his connections in the Office of the Ombudsman and, as such, would brag that he is untouchable,” and that he would even drop the names of then mayor Lani Cayetano and now House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano.

Son and company also filed graft and serious misconduct not only against Tizon, but also against Dr. Carleen Sedilla, Dr. Romulo Rocena and the other bids and awards committee members for awarding a contract to ProAds Events Management, the owner of G3 Natural Hot Springs Resort.
