More children die in war-torn areas

At least 100,000 babies die every year due to armed conflicts in the 10 worst-affected countries, child rights organization Save the Children said in its global report “Stop the War on Children” released over the weekend.

The 64-page report said these infants die from the indirect effects of war–hunger and malnutrition, destruction of homes, hospitals and the lack of access to health care and sanitation.

The 10 worst countries for children child are Afghanistan, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Iraq, Mali, Nigeria, Somalia, South Sudan, Syria and Yemen. All these countries are in a state of war.

Deaths of children below 5-years-old due to war reached 870,000 from 2013 to 2017, five times more than the 175,000 adult fighters who died during the same period.
