Different banana

Myrna (not her real name) was in the business of supplying bananas to market stall owners.

It turned out she was supplying something else on the side.

On Saturday night, she was arrested by operatives of the Quezon City Police District-Cubao Police Station in Barangay E. Rodriguez after she sold P500 worth of shabu to an undercover agent.

Also recovered from her were 23 sachets believed containing shabu with an estimated street value of P13,600.

According to information gathered by investigators, Myrna and her live-in partner are engaged in the business of supplying bananas, particularly at the Mega Q-Mart market.

They are using their legitimate business as a front for selling shabu to clients in the area, the police said.

Myrna admitted she was indeed delivering the illegal drugs but denied they were hers. She claimed a certain Pia is the real distributor and that she is merely a courier. She also claimed her live-in partner did not know of the illicit transaction she was engaged in.

Authorities said Myrna’s live-in partner eluded arrest because he was not around when the buy bust operation was staged and has likely gone in hiding after learning of her arrest. But he is not yet out of the woods as Myrna agreed to help the police in arresting him.

Myrna must have thought integrating her banana business with shabu distribution could fool the authorities. She should have known that dealing with bananas could prove dangerous, particularly if you’re not paying attention to the peeling.

She may not have stepped on one, but in selling shabu to the poseur-buyer she really made a bad slip. And now she is taking the fall.
