Bong Go plays ‘ninong’ to 800 lovebirds

Former Special Assistant to the President (SAP) and aspiring senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go made time to share the love on Valentine’s Day by attending a mass wedding ceremony Thursday, as well as providing aid to fire survivors.

Bong Go grace with his presence the “I Do! I Do! Araw ng Pag-IBIG” annual mass wedding ceremony at the Philippine International Convention Center before visiting the fire victims of Barangay 178, both in Pasay City.

He completed the wedding entourage as the “ninong” to about 800 couples from all over Metro Manila who joined in to share their wedding vows.

Sponsored by Pag-IBIG, the event was in its eighth year and was held simultaneously in other areas of the country such as Mandaue City, Davao City, Ilocos Sur, Cagayan Valley, Tarlac, Bulacan, Palawan, Bicol, Antique, Iligan City, General Santos City and Zamboanga City

The couples were advised to be true to their vows to one another and to love their respective spouses faithfully until the end.

After the wedding ceremony, Go went to Barangay 178 in Pasay City to visit the fire victims in that area.

In Barangay 178 in Pasay City, the fire on February 13, 2019 destroyed at least 6 houses, affected 27 families, injured 1 individual, Jonathan Madrid, as well as took the life of one child. The residents who were affected by the fire evacuated to Barangay 178’s covered court.

Upon entering Barangay 178’s covered court, Go spent time listening to the concerns of the fire victims. He assured them that help and immediate assistance will come from various private sector donors.

“Hayaan na muna natin ang kampanya; mas uunahin ko po kayong nasunugan,” said Go, who emphasized that going to fire victims is a bigger priority than campaign events scheduled on the same day.

“Asahan po ninyo na pupuntahan ko po at papasukin ang mga eskinita, makapagserbisyo lang po sa inyo,” he added.

Go also made sure to check the condition of the injured fire victim. He also gave his condolences to the family of the child who died in the Pasay fire.

Apart from listening to the concerns of the fire survivors, Bong Go joined TODA drivers and operators in a boodle fight. He ate home-cooked food with them, traded stories, and expressed solidarity with them in trying to earn a decent living legally and drug-free.

Bong Go assured the newlyweds as well as the fire victims that his love and service for them does not end on Valentine’s Day and that, alongside President Duterte, he will faithfully love and serve the Filipino people.
