PNP gets EOD equipment

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Oscar Albayalde yesterday received from Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Koji Haneda various high-end police equipment in support of the Philippine government’s counter-terrorism campaign.

Haneda handed six bomb suits, six ballistic shields and 440 units of ballistic helmets to be issued to various explosives and ordnance disposal units of the PNP.

Meanwhile, the Eastern Police District (EPD) on Tuesday received new assault rifles from the National Capital Region Police Office, boosting the police unit’s capability to respond quickly to calls for law enforcement and police service.

EPD director Chief Supt. Bernabe Balba personally received the 100 rifles with complete accessories.

The firearms will be distributed to the police stations of Pasig, Mandaluyong, Marikina and San Juan, including the EPD headquarters and the district mobile force battalion.

“These newly acquired long firearms will greatly help EPD cops to secure the area of responsibility and keep the community safe and peaceful,” Balba said.

The Mandaluyong City Police Station, headed by Senior Supt. Moises Villaceran Jr., attended the bomb awareness seminar at the basement of SM Megamall Building A on Tuesday morning.

The said seminar was participated in by the security guards and employees of SM Megamall.
