NBI probes MPD shooting

The kin of a man killed inside Station 7 of the Manila Police District (MPD) while undergoing booking procedures has asked the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to probe the incident.

Manila policemen claimed Jervie Bernardo, 28, was shot dead when he tried to grab the gun of Police Officer 1 Anjon Cruz, but the NBI and the Public Attorney’s Office will step in to determine what really happened.

A mobile phone video of Cruz purportedly shows him still alive and claiming he was shot without any provocation on his part.

Bernardo was arrested Wednesday in front of their house along Obrero Street in Tondo, Manila while fixing his motorcycle. He was brought to the Ospital ng Tondo where he died from his wounds.
