‘Stairway to Heaven’ now open

THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Tuesday announced the reopening of the controversial footbridge in Quezon City that has been earlier dubbed as ‘Stairway to Heaven’ by netizen because of its unusual height.

But unlike its first opening, the refurbished footbridge now has “landing areas” where pedestrians can rest while climbing the steps.

Photo by Alex V. Orlino To recall, the MMDA closed the footbridge — which cost P10 million to build and located at Scout Borromeo-EDSA — late last year for redesigning after its design drew flak from the public.

Earlier reports said the footbridge is nine meters (30 feet) high which — for pedestrian on the open-air structure — will be equivalent to being on the third floor of a building and below it are the power lines and tracks of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT3).
