ABS-CBN begins 2019 with strong PH-wide rating
ABS-CBN, the country’s leading media and entertainment company, opened the new year as the most watched TV network nationwide with an average audience share of 45 percent versus GMA’s 30 percent in January, according to data from Kantar Media.
Global audience measurement provider Kantar Media uses a nationwide panel size of 2,610 urban and rural homes that represent 100 percent of the total Philippine TV viewing population.
The Kapamilya network won in urban and rural homes across the country, with an average audience share of 44 percent in Metro Manila versus GMA’s 23 percent. It also posted higher viewership in Mega Manila with 37 percent compared to GMA’s 28 percent. ABS-CBN also led in Total Luzon with 40 percent versus GMA’s 32 percent; in Total Visayas with 54 percent over GMA’s 25 percent; and in Mindanao with 55 percent compared to GMA’s 26 percent.
Nine of the top 10 most watched programs in January came from ABS-CBN, led by perennial top-rater FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano (39.1 percent). Making strong debuts were The General’s Daughter (32.8 percent), a new action-drama series and World of Dance Philippines (30.8 percent), a new reality talent competition. Following these are TV Patrol (30.2 percent), the just-concluded drama series Ngayon at Kailanman (28.7 percent), Maalaala Mo Kaya (24.3 percent), Halik (23.2 percent), the returning Minute to Win It: Last Man Standing (22.6 percent) and Wansapanataym (22.4 percent).
ABS-CBN continued to rule primetime, earning an average audience share of 50 percent versus GMA’s 29 percent; as well as the morning block (6 a.m. -12 noon) with an average audience share of 37 percent, compared to GMA’s 27 percent; the noontime block (12 noon-3 p.m.) with 42, versus GMA’s 31 percent and the afternoon block (3 p.m.-6 p.m.) with 44 percent, beating GMA’s 33 percent.
