Military helps settle Maguindanao rido

Government troops based in Maguindanao yesterday reported that they successfully helped settle the bloody four-year feud or “rido” between four influential families in Buldon town.

Lt. Col. Roberto Go Jr., commander of 37th Infantry Battalion, said he along with Buldon Mayor Abolais Manalao, Vice Mayor Cairudin Pangunutan and Barangay Nuyo Chairman Ali Gumaga, served as a witness as the warring families decided to bury the hatchet.

“Rido” is a Moro term which means bloody family feud resulting in prolonged violence in areas that they happen.

Go said they helped settle the feud involving the families of Ape, Mangurong and Tabubong from Barangay Edcor with the Mismar family from Barangay Nuyo of Buldon town.

According to reports, a deer hunting trip by the families of Ape, Mangurong and Tabubong had gone wrong, when one of their family members accidentally shot and killed a member of Mismar family.

The incident triggered the “rido” which is common in Buldon.

Because of the growing violence, the military decided to step in and helped settle the feud.

The move resulted in both families surrendering their firearms and vowing to stop the bloodbath.
