Hit man, knife man both arrested

A 36-year-old man was arrested by police authorities for illegal possession of a deadly weapon in front of a hotel in Mandaluyong City Friday night.

The arrested suspect was identified as Milven Fernandez, 36, construction worker, a resident of Barangay Malinaw, Vicper, Pasig City.

Two police officers were conducting beat patrol along EDSA Nice Hotel, Barangay Highway Hills, Mandaluyong City when they chanced upon three suspicious looking male persons who were about to board a public utility bus.

One of the police officers noticed that one of the suspicious men was holding a folded knife in his left hand.

In Malabon City, a suspected hit man and his companion were arrested by police during an entrapment operation in Malabon City as the duo extorted money from a businessman while threatening his life.

The businessman claimed the suspects demanded, through a letter sent him last 17 December, P150,000 in exchange for his life as he was blamed for the purported killing in Caloocan last year.

When he failed to pay the entire amount, the death threats persisted and he noted that in some cases, bullets were even inserted in the letter envelopes, prompting him to report to the police.

Meanwhile, two suspected drug peddlers were arrested in a buy-bust operation in Mandaluyong City early Saturday morning.

Senior Supt.Moises Villaceran Jr., Mandaluyong police chief, identified the suspects as Jonas Legaspi, 46 and Johnly Navarro, 29, both residents of Blk. 39, Welfareville Compound, Barangay Addition Hills, Mandaluyong City.
