2 deaths, 2 grenades

Two grenades — one fragmentation and another rifle-fired — were retrieved by Manila policemen along R10 Road corner Capulong Street in Tondo, Manila Friday evening.

A scavenger found the grenades inside a red and black backpack at around 9 p.m. and reported his find to security officers at the site. The police were then called to take the grenades for safekeeping.

Police are looking at the closed circuit television camera footage of the barangay to identify who left the bag with the explosives.

Two bodies, meanwhile, were found in Intramuros and Baseco Compound in Tondo Saturday and Friday afternoon, respectively, according to a report by the Manila Police District.

The Intramuros fatality was identified as Edison S. Abarquez, aged 58 to 60, and said to be a computer operator of the Department of Public Works and Highways.

Abarquez’s body was picked up from his rented unit on the second floor of the Walled City Dormitory on Muralla Street. He was last seen washing dishes at 9 p.m. of 30 January.

The police failed to identify the body found beside the Ninoy Aquino Elementary School at Baseco Compound. The victim, about 5’7” and clad in gray shirt and jogging pants, bore a gunshot wound.
