Respect checkpoints, police ask public

Just because he was not wearing a helmet, a motorcycle rider rammed a policeman at a checkpoint in Quezon City the other day, rendering the cop unconscious while injuring himself.

The rider was identified as Peter John Halog who tried to evade a PNP-Comelec checkpoint along a road in Barangay Payatas, Quezon City. The cop was PO1 John Edison Arlan-Tan.

Tan was immediately brought to the East Avenue Medical Center while Halog was arrested to possibly face frustrated murder and other charges.

“Please do not be afraid if you are being flagged down at checkpoints, especially if you know that you did no crime,” Quezon City Police District head Chief Supt. Joselito Esquivel Jr. said.

“We are only doing this to maintain peace and order, especially as the midterm election is fast approaching,” he added.
