Godparents galore

Triplets Janan, Kishelle and Browen of Tubao, La Union can claim the world record of having the most number of godparents.

A total 105 godmothers and godfathers attended last week the baptism of the 10-month-old daughters of Agnes Bucsit, a daycare teacher, and Roosevelt Rivera, a restaurant helper. Bucsit said friends, co-workers and neighbors were so delighted of the town’s only triplets that they asked to be godparents at their baptism last week.

It is considered bad luck to reject a request to be a godparent of a child, said Bucsit in a TV interview on Thursday, the reason why they accepted so many volunteers for their daughters.

It should be a good and right decision for the parents as they will have many people supporting them in bringing up their kids at the same time which is very costly. The children themselves can also expect more gifts during their birthdays.

For the godparents, come the gift-giving season of Christmas, they will have to buy a present for each triplet, thus tripling their expenses. Otherwise, they have to triple-time in hiding from their godchildren when they make their traditional visits to their Ninong and Ninang to collect gifts.
