4 years for scalding kids

The Supreme Court (SC) Third Division has affirmed a decision of the Court of Appeals (CA) sentencing a woman to four years in prison for child abuse, arising from her scalding two kids with boiling oil in 2012 in Taguig City.

Sentenced was Evangeline Patulot who was earlier meted out a six-year prison term by the Pasig City Regional Trial Court, a jail term lowered to four years by the CA.

Able to reduce her original sentence by two years through the CA, Patulot tried her luck anew at the SC, but the 12-page decision penned by Associate Justice Diosdado Peralta found no merit with her appeal.

Patulot’s victims, aged three years old and two months’ old, suffered burns on their faces and skin as a result of having boiling cooking oil thrown at them.
